Back-bends

Dhanurasana

The backward bending asanas energize, refresh and invigorate the body- opening the chest, encouraging inhalation, an action associated with embracing life. Backward bending postures squeeze the abdominal organs

Forward bends

Baddha Konasana

Forward bending asanas comp ress and massage the organs of the upper abdomen.

Inversions

Sirshasana

Inversion poses involve any asanas that lift the feet above the head.

Prone Poses

Naukasana

The posture that must be maintained before/ after performing a Prone asana is to lie down on front side of the chest and abdomen with the chin on the floor and both hands lying besides the thighs, and palms resting on the floor.

Seated Poses

Janusirasana

The resting pose for all Sitting asanas before and after performing is the sitting position with both legs together and stretched, toes erect, spine erect and both hands straight and palms resting on the floor.

Standing Poses

Vrikshasana

Before/ after performing a standing pose: while remaining at rest before/ after a standing pose one should stand with his feet close to each other, heels and the toes touching each other and hands touching the thigh.

Supine Poses

Halasana

The resting posture for all Supine poses before and after doing an asana is to lie down on the back with legs together, straight extended, the toes erect and hands straight and palms resting on the floor.
